Town of Mountain Village
Situated in the heart of the breathtaking San Juan Mountains, Mountain Village is in San Miguel County in Southwestern Colorado. It was founded in 1995 and designed to be a ski-in/ski-out pedestrian-friendly alpine destination resort intended to complement the historic mining town of Telluride. A three-stage, innovative gondola transportation system connects Mountain Village with Telluride. It is the only public gondola transportation system in the country, is free and is faster than driving a car between the two towns. Situated at an average elevation of 9,500 feet, Mountain Village’s year-round population is estimated to be 1,471 people in 2019. Mountain Village and Telluride are home to a world-class ski mountain in operation since 1972 and offering a variety of beginner, intermediate and expert terrain with rarely any lift line. Mountain Village is situated in a remarkable and unusual natural setting, surrounded by the largest concentration of 13,000- and 14,000-foot mountains in North America. A cobblestone pedestrian plaza at the base of the Mountain Village is lined with boutiques, restaurants, hotels, spas, bouldering area, ice rink and is also home to conference facilities, the ski and golf company’s headquarters, the ski and snowboard school and an evolving outdoor recreation system designed for alpine pursuits. Surrounding the core of town is the 18-hole championship golf course as well as custom-crafted mountain residences that abut both the golf course and the ski area. There is also a grocer, post office and many miles of hiking, biking, snowshoe and Nordic trails.

Things To Do In Mountain Village Colorado
Mountain Village is a beautiful city that boasts natural scenery and extensive attractions for the whole family. Mountain Village is a relatively new addition to the Telluride area but serves as a great destination for those who want to take a break from skiing.
While many visit the Telluride area for the world-class ski resort, there are also things to do for those who aren’t interested in skiing.
Even just getting to Mountain Village is an exciting experience. The Mountain Village Gondola is a brief ride that features the beautiful landscape of Telluride. However, once you arrive at Mountain Village, you are greeted with several fun options for you and the whole family.
Ice Skating
Ice skating is a relatively low-stakes physical activity when compared to skiing but can still be a great way to spend an evening. Plus, ice skating is totally on-brand with the winter wonderland that is Mountain Village.
The Mountain Village Ice Rink is located at Reflection Plaza and is sure to impress!. The Mountain Village Ice Rink is located at Reflection Plaza and is sure to impress!
Shopping
Heritage Plaza and Sunset Plaza are the go-to spots for those who need a bit of retail therapy. If you’d like to do a bit of shopping before enjoying Mountain Village’s vibrant nightlife, we suggest staying around Heritage Plaza. Sunset Plaza, on the other hand, is a unique experience that blends shopping with being in the outdoors. Sunset Plaza is situated along a magnificent view and has an open-mall design that showcases Mountain Village’s great weather and ambiance.
The Village Pond
Instead of visiting the plazas, you could also take a stroll to The Village Pond. The Village Pond is a frozen area where families come to mingle and span time. This unique attraction is located around Conference Center Plaza and features ice that is home to several fun activities. Do you want to play broomball? How about curling? Do you want to just slide around with your loved ones? You can find that and more at The Village Pond.
Disc Golf
Disc golf is a close cousin of golf, except instead of a golf ball a disc/Frisbee is used. For those who have never played…you are definitely missing out. Whether you are a disc golf newbie or pro, we highly recommend disc golfing at Market Plaza in Mountain Village. At Market Plaza, you can also take a break from disc golfing to satisfy your hunger at the neighborhood grocery store.
Enjoy Hearty Cuisine
As you can probably tell, Mountain Village is home to several plazas and each of them features delicious restaurants for every palette. Although you will find yourself impressed by most restaurants in the area, we personally suggest The Village Table. At The Village Table, you can enjoy rich Mediterranean cuisine paired with a glass of wine.
Whether you choose to disc golf or ice skate or anything in between, we know that you will create treasured memories here in Mountain Village.
