For over 20 years, Mike Shimkonis has employed his intuitive matchmaker and creative marketing skills with buyers and sellers in both straightforward and sophisticated luxury real estate transactions around the Telluride region. Prior to establishing Shimkonis Partners, Mike’s career spans the outdoor and entertainment industries with long stints at the Walt Disney Company, Vail Resorts and Mountainfilm in Telluride. His early talents and successes with handling world championships and special events, resort marketing and media relations, film and festival productions, along with crises management set the groundwork for his veteran approach with top shelf Telluride real estate including advising several families with the highest end home and ranch purchases and sales in the region. Several leaders in the worlds of politics, entertainment and business have entrusted their real estate matters with Mike. A resident of Telluride since 1993, Mike and his team have transacted over $400 million in real estate sales including $131+ million and 141 transactions in 2017-2019 which represents approximately 11% of the market share in San Miguel County (excluding fractionals).
Asa Van Gelder
I was born on the path to a career as a real estate broker. From a young age I developed determination and toughness competing for 7 years at arguably the most difficult youth sport of all-wrestling. Student government and captain of multiple high school sports teams further enhanced the grit developed from wrestling into a leadership role and the beginning skills of problem solving and conflict resolution. Years of working as an outdoor guide in college and beyond entrenched my ability to not only lead people through challenging situations, but to do it in a manner that creates trust, is enjoyable and fulfilling. Earning a BA in Environmental Studies at UC Santa Barbara without any family financial support instilled the values of sustained dedication and financial stewardship. After graduating and moving to Telluride in the early 90’s, I met my wife and that 22+ year relationship has enhanced my skills at negotiation and patience! In 2003, my formal Telluride real estate journey began as a licensed residential appraiser. I worked full time in that profession for many years and still maintain an active license as an appraiser. The analytical skills along with an intimate familiarity with the nuances of the Telluride real estate market gained working as a Telluride appraiser led to a seamless entry to real estate brokering in 2006. Today, after over 30 years of cumulative Telluride real estate experience and the skills developed in other facets of life combined with an in depth knowledge of the Telluride community creates a level of professionalism that my clients find invaluable.
Remember Rosie the Robot Maid from the Jetsons? Well, that’s me for the Shimkonis Partners family. It’s a bit of a juggling act, continuously ensuring all is running smoothly between clients, our team, and our listed properties. Even more importantly, it’s a whole lot of fun, the hard work pays off and the support we all provide for each other makes us the dream team.
Born and raised here Telluride by long time locals, my love for the San Juan’s runs deep and I am always eager to get outside and explore it even more. I left the box canyon to attend the University of Colorado Boulder with a full academic scholarship, majoring with honors in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. I then moved back here 4 years ago, where I started my professional career, met my fiancé, and ultimately was lucky enough to be hired by Shimkonis Partners. Just to add to the fun, I also work as a wedding planner, potentially the most visually beautiful job to have, made easy by the scenic landscape I am lucky enough to call home.
I look forward to getting to know you and sharing Telluride with you. Welcome to the good life!
I grew up in San Luis Obispo, California, moved to the Telluride area in the fall of 2000 and started working for Shimkonis Partners in 2005. I love living and working in these beautiful mountains. My husband is a Colorado native and together we have 3 kids and love everything that Colorado has to offer, especially getting out doors as a family and enjoying this amazing place we call home! My husband’s great grandfather was a cattle rancher raising Black Angus and homesteaded his family in the Norwood area in the 1880s. I came to Telluride as a teenager to ski Telluride and fell in love. My colleagues at Shimkonis Partners insist I tell you I am the San Miguel County Fair Pie and Cake Contest Champion for umpteen years. One of my best desserts is a Jack Daniels Chocolate Chip Pecan pie. Raising my toddler twins and a son along with the heaps of fun work at Shimkonis Partners makes me the Chaos Coordinator and Circus Ringmaster!
I’m like a Swiss Army Knife; I’m ready for anything! No matter what is thrown my way, I’m able to listen, absorb, and simply say, “Got it.” With a deep understanding of marketing and online resources in an ever-changing digital world, I think outside of the box and find ways to make things happen, no matter the circumstances. This makes me the agent you can count on.
I am a Georgia native, born and raised in the Atlanta area. Immediately upon graduating from Georgia Southern University, I moved across the country to Telluride, where I began my career in advertising sales for the local newspaper. While strategizing their print marketing campaigns, I connected with Telluride real estate brokers, and quickly became enamored with the beautiful homes they were representing.
In 2015, I made the inevitable leap to real estate and joined Shimkonis Partners as a Buyer Specialist in 2020. My technological savvy, attentiveness to client needs, extensive market knowledge, and overall real estate experience gives me an edge.
Outside of the office, you can find me paddling nearby rivers and lakes on my SUP board, exploring the surrounding high country, and enjoying all that the San Juan Mountains have to offer. I am married to my best friend, Ted, and am incredibly fortunate to be the stepmother of his 11-year-old son, Gage.
