With a deep-rooted passion for connecting people and places, I’ve spent 25 years intuitively guiding buyers and sellers through the sophisticated world of luxury real estate in and around Telluride and Mountain Village. My journey has been enriched by diverse experiences in the outdoor and entertainment industries from Orlando to the Rocky Mountains, orchestrating world-class events at the Walt Disney Company and Vail Resorts and leading marketing and media initiatives for the Telluride Ski & Golf Company and Mountainfilm in Telluride.
My blend of creativity, observation and strategic acumen allows me to advise discerning families seeking their ideal mountain sanctuary. My clientele includes prominent political, entertainment, and business figures who entrust me with their most significant real estate decisions. As an Emeritus member of the Mountainfilm Board of Directors, a member of the Council of Esteemed Advisors for the Telluride Film Festival, and a co-founder of the Telluride First-Time Homebuyers Fund, I remain deeply connected to this community’s vibrant culture.
Together with my trusted business partner/appraiser and my marketing and support team, we’ve cultivated a reputation for excellence, achieving over $740 million in real estate sales and consistently capturing a significant San Miguel County market share. I was destined to be a real estate broker from a young age.
Determination and toughness were instilled in me as a child while competing in youth wrestling. Those traits remained with me through high school, where I was the captain of multiple high school sports teams and involved in the student government. During that time, I also began to develop my skills in problem solving, leadership and conflict resolution.
Those characteristics translated well to another passion of mine – the outdoors. I began working as an outdoor guide while I was earning my BA in Environmental Studies at UC Santa Barbara, which entrenched my ability to lead people through challenging situations. Earning the trust of my fellow nature enthusiasts was an enjoyable and fulfilling experience, while adversely, I was learning about financial stewardship from supporting myself through college.
After graduating, I moved to Telluride in the early ‘90s and met my wife, Robyn, who has encouraged me through every career move while also enhancing my negotiation skills and patience. While not working, you can find us skiing, biking, fat biking, golfing, backpacking, chopping wood, mentoring local youth, camping in our 1988 VW Westfalia, or trekking all over the world on our 2012 BMW GSA 1200.
My formal real estate journey began in 2003 as a licensed residential appraiser and I never looked back. My analytical skills and familiarity with the Telluride real estate market led to a seamless transition to real estate brokering in 2006, while still maintaining my appraisal license.
Every life experience led to my current role as a partner with Shimkonis Partners. With over 30 years of cumulative Telluride real estate experience, an in-depth knowledge of the Telluride community, and countless skills amassed in my other facets of life, my clients have found me to be an invaluable resource for their Telluride real estate experience.
Karyl is the human embodiment of “get it done.” As a Certified Yoga Teacher and Shimkonis Partners’ lead Transaction Coordinator, she brings a unique blend of high-level precision and mindful composure to every deal. Since 2013, Karyl has honed her expertise as a Real Estate Virtual Professional, navigating complex international transactions with the “eagle eye” detail she’s known for.
Whether she is managing sophisticated contracts or guiding a closing to the finish line, Karyl operates as our “transaction whisperer”—ensuring deadlines are met with absolute accuracy and total discretion. A graduate of the University of Santo Tomas with a degree in Asian Studies, she balances the fast-paced world of real estate with the discipline of yoga and meditation. When she isn’t centering a complex closing, Karyl finds her own balance through yoga, meditation, and quiet time at home with her husband, Bryan, and their beloved furry family of eight.
Barbara brings 30+ years of experience in graphic design and digital marketing, combining creative vision with strong technical expertise to support Shimkonis Partners’ digital presence.
Her career in Telluride began in print as a graphic designer for a local publisher, before she quickly found her stride in digital media. As Digital Marketing Manager for Telluride Ski Resort, Barbara oversaw multiple websites and digital platforms, shaping user experiences and driving cohesive, high-performing online strategies.
Today, she works as a flexible digital specialist, focusing on WordPress and Shopify development, site management, and the full suite of Google tools. Whether optimizing performance, refining UX, or building from the ground up, she brings a thoughtful, detail-driven approach to every project.
Barbara holds a BA in Graphic Design from New Jersey City University and completed a 260-hour Web Development Bootcamp at Colorado State University — blending formal design training with hands-on technical depth.
When she’s not behind a screen, you’ll find her fully immersed in the Telluride lifestyle — mountain biking, skiing, climbing, or holding down the net as a goalie in the local co-ed ice hockey league.
