Telluride Free Box Finds New Home

Telluride’s iconic Free Box is on the move! After nearly 50 years of serving the community, this beloved resource will relocate to the Voodoo Employee Rental Housing Project on November 4th.
The move aims to streamline management and maintenance while preserving the Free Box’s legacy. The new location will feature a covered structure, enhanced organization, and expanded space for various items.
The Free Box has been a cornerstone of Telluride since its inception in 1975. It’s a place where residents can share goods, reduce waste, and foster a sense of community.

To ensure the Free Box remains a valuable asset, the town is implementing new guidelines:
  • No furniture, trash, hazardous materials, broken items, food, or electronics.
  • Limited parking for loading/unloading only.
  • Cameras will monitor the site to prevent illegal dumping.
Pieces of the original Free Box will be donated to local institutions, including the Telluride Historical Museum, KOTO Radio, and Telluride Ski Patrol, honoring its legacy.
